King George III and King George IV: Two of the Greatest Royal Collectors

King George III was a discerning collector, patron of the Arts and Artists. He was also a keen architect who added the future Buckingham Palace to the Royal residences and re-inhabited Windsor Castle. King George IV was passionately fond of lavish decoration and display. As Prince of Wales he built Brighton Pavilion; as a king he converted Buckingham House into Buckingham Palace , also making huge changes to Windsor Castle. He collected works by Rembrandt , Rubens and Van Dyck, together with Sevres porcelain and a huge amount of gold and silver objects. He also patronised Reynolds, Gainsborough, Stubbs, Canova and Chantrey
