The Life, Times and Marriage of Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock

October 14, 2019 @ 10:45 am - 12:00 pm

The Life, Times and Marriage of Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock

A Lecture By Ray Warburton .

When they met in 1942 Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock were both up-and-coming artists yet to make their mark. If anything she was better known than he was. In fact, she introduced him to leading American art collectors and critics. They were married in 1945, and their home on Long Island became a centre for art making in the USA. Together they developed their signature style – Abstract Expressionism. This lecture will describe the art they made before they met, the art they made when together, and her art immediately after his death in 1956. The lecture will explore how Krasner struggled to emerge from Pollock’s shadow in the 1960s but eventually succeeded.
